Jackson State 38, Tennessee State 18
Jackson State rode into the Classic with its heralded defense,
but by the end of the second quarter, it was the JSU offense
that was taking bows.
Scoring on all three possessions, JSU build up a lead that
left little drama in the game.
Tennessee State piled up the yardage, but once the team got
inside the 20-yard line, Jackson State put on the brakes.
TSU quarterback James Wade was intercepted once at the 2 and
twice in the end zone. Overall, he went 23-for-49 with four
interceptions.
On the other side of the line, JSU quarterback Ricky Jordan
had rolled up 234 yards passing by halftime. He finished with
262.
Jordan's aerial display for the crowd of 37,437 included hitting
senior split end Antonious Kimbrough for a 75-yard play and
wide receiver Isiah Bliss for a 63-yeard touchdown.
Fullback Robert Staten added another TD with a 2-yard run.
TSU's scoring was lead by its special teams. In the second
half, Patrick Robinson returned the opening kickoff 91 yards
for a score.
